Recruitment Process
Job openings for the City of Warrenville are generally advertised in the local paper or professional journals and are also posted on the City’s website and local cable access Channel 10. Anyone may apply for a position opening, as Warrenville is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Each position has a required level of education, experience, skills and abilities that will be outlined in the job posting. These criteria will be used to determine the candidates’ qualifications during the recruitment process.
Application
It is not necessary to apply in person. However, applications are available at City Hall during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applicants may complete an application and leave it with the receptionist or he/she can mail it to 28W701 Stafford Place, Warrenville, IL 60555. Applications may also be faxed to 630/393-6948. Applicants may download an application or email resumes and cover letters to the Assistant City Administrator at jmcmahon at warrenville.il.us. The letter must identify which job the applicant is applying for. The job posting will state if a resume is necessary with an application. Applicants can apply for as many jobs as there are openings; however, a separate application is required for each position.
Completed applications must include a legal name, contact information, the title of the position being applied for, and a signature. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Anyone needing assistance in the application process should let the Administration Department at 630/393-9427 know his/her need for accommodations.
Applicants may attach appropriate documents to their application such as resume, letter of recommendation, certification, etc. If driving a motor vehicle is part of the job requirements, applicants will be required to have a valid Illinois driver's license. Some positions may even require a CDL or the ability to obtain one.
Residency
Employees of the City do not have to live in Warrenville or within a specific mile radius of the City.
Interviews
After the closing date of a job posting, the hiring supervisor and Department Head will review all applications. Those who do not meet the minimum requirements will be removed from consideration. The Department Head and immediate supervisor decides who will be interviewed. A City representative will contact applicants to schedule an interview. Not all applicants will be chosen for an interview.
Testing
Applicants, for positions that require particular knowledge and skills, may be tested. For example, a typing test may be given for a job that requires such a skill. If an applicant has a disability and requires a reasonable accommodation in the testing process, he/she should let the Administration Department know their needs prior to the test.
Police applicants are given special testing dates during the time that the City is recruiting for entry-level cadets. The City’s Board of Fire and Police Commissioners conducts this testing. Announcements for police testing will be posted on the City’s website and Channel 10. More information on police recruitment can be viewed on the Police Department’s web page.
Offer
There is no set time to select an applicant for a position opening. Every effort is made to reach a prompt decision. Following the interview, candidates will be provided with a timetable on making a selection. The length of time depends on the number of applications being screened and the nature of the position. All applicants are notified of the City’s decision either via telephone or correspondence.
Future Openings
If an applicant wishes to be considered for any future openings, he/she should reapply. It is also recommended that applicants periodically check the website or Channel 10 for job postings.
