Route 59/Route 56 Subarea Plan
Project Status: on-going
The City Council has recognized the significant amount of ongoing development planned and occurring in the southern section of the Route 59 corridor. There is also a large amount of vacant land available for sale and development near the intersection of Route 59/Route 56. To address these areas, the City Council recently established the review, revision, and ultimate adoption of an updated Rt. 59/Rt. 56 Subarea Land Use Plan as a high priority.
The City staff and the Plan Commission will coordinate a public process to develop this Subarea Plan over the next six months. It is expected that the final Subarea Plan will establish clear policy direction on key issues including future land use, development, redevelopment, vehicle parking and circulation, pedestrian and bicycle circulation, public infrastructure improvements, environmental protection, stormwater management, and urban design.

The format of this meeting utilized small group break-out tables where all meeting attendees actively participated in drawing, mapping, and designing different aspects of the Subarea. The input gathered at this meeting will help shape the land use recommendations and implementation priorities that will form the “backbone” of the final Subarea Plan.
