Parking During Snowfall
Vehicles cannot be parked on any street, roadway, or roadway shoulder for a period of 24 hours after the accumulation of two inches or more of snow or until the street or roadway has been cleared of snow.
The Police Department uses three criteria before issuing tickets.
- The snow must be measured at over 2 inches. The areas measured must not be subjected to drifting or other conditions that may improperly alter the measurement.
- The snowfall must be predicted.
- The City snowplows must be out.
When City plows are clearing snow, the Police Department will issue tickets. They are also empowered to tow vehicles parked in violation of the ordinance. Towing is predicated the length of time a vehicle is parked illegally and the type of hazard it may present.
Parking Enforcement
In general parking is prohibited on any bridge, overpass or underpass, within twenty feet of any intersection or crosswalk, within thirty feet of any traffic signal or sign, in front of any driveway, within twenty feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station, on any parkway or sidewalk, within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant, on private property without owner consent and at any place where official signs prohibit parking. Specific areas where parking is prohibited will be designated by a sign, in the City’s municipal code or by contacting the Police Department at 630/393-2131.
Enforcement of the City’s parking regulations is done by the Police Department. Depending upon the circumstances a vehicle can be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.
