The Warrenville Bicyclists and Pedestrian Advisory Commission was established in 2006 as an advisory board to the City Council to support, encourage, and promote safe bicycling and walking throughout the City through capital improvements, amenities, events, and programs. Their mission is to work with the local agencies, businesses owners, and citizens of Warrenville, to identify needs, desires, and opportunities as well as to coordinate efforts to provide for bicyclist and pedestrian amenities.

The Commission's Primary Roles and Responsibilities are the following:

  • Plan for bicyclists and pedestrians as part of a citywide and regional multi-use transportation system.
  • Evaluate and prioritize ways to improve the level of bicycle and pedestrian services, trails, paths, on-street bikeways, and other economically-feasible projects.
  • Identify high-priority projects that improve safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians reducing car and bike/pedestrian conflicts.
  • Encourage bicycle commuting and walking in lieu of motorized transportation and recreation.
  • Initiate bicycle and pedestrian safety programs and related events.
  • Host public meetings to create safe routes to schools and parks.
  • Provide resources and educational materials on cycling and walking.
  • Attain the designation of “Bicycle Friendly Community” for the City of Warrenville.
  • Establish communications with the League of Illinois Bicyclists, Chicagoland Bicycling Federation, Illinois Prairie Path Association, coordinator of the DuPage County Trails System, and other related community groups.
  • Make recommendations to City Council for the planning of bikeway and pedestrian routes

The Commission’s staff liaison is the Assistant City Administrator who can be reached at 630/393-9427. Their Council liaison is Alderman Bill Weidner.

The Bicyclists and Pedestrian Advisory Commission’s efforts in achieving its goals are dependant largely on ascertaining the needs of the community. Feel free to contact Commission members with any thoughts or concerns relevant to bicyclist and pedestrian issues. With citizen assistance, the Commission shall strive to keep the City of Warrenville an attractive destination for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The Bicyclist and Pedestrian Advisory Commission meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. The public is invited to attend.

Bike Rodeo

This bicycle safety event, perfect for kids, is hosted each May from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the City Hall parking lot on Stafford Place near the Gazebo. Bicyclists and Pedestrian Advisory Commission members and volunteers provide information related to bicycling, trails, paths, safe routes to schools, bike and vehicle safety, bicycle care, and bicycle equipment. Attendees have an opportunity to provide community feedback to the Commission on bike routes through Warrenville. Great raffle prizes, like bicycles and helmets, are available with some fun giveaways. Children have an opportunity to ride a safety course and police officers are on hand to register bicycles. Working Bikes Cooperative, a not-for-profit cooperative that diverts bicycles from the waste stream in Chicago by repairing them for sale and charity, collect bikes for recycling. The library offers a bibliography of cycling books, magazines, and helpful websites. This is a truly fun event that also provides invaluable safety tips for families.
