Welcome Letter from the Mayor

Dear New Warrenville Resident,

Welcome to Warrenville! I congratulate you on your choice of communities to settle down in, but I have to caution you up front: There seems to be something about our little town that commands loyalty. People move here and find over time that they just can’t bring themselves to leave.

I can think of a lot of reasons to explain Warrenville’s magnetism. We are located in the center of one of the most prosperous counties in the nation, with almost any opportunity for amusement, recreation, worship, shopping, and cultural events close by. Care to sample the “big city” upon occasion? Chicago is less than an hour to the east. How about a picnic in the great out-of-doors? Throw your sandwiches in your backpack, grab your bike and follow one of our great trails connecting the many forest preserves that surround us and provide a greenspace buffer from our neighbors. And speaking of biking, adjacent Fermilab provides simply the best biking opportunity in the area. In addition, our central location opens up a huge world of employment opportunities within a reasonable commute.

Like to stick close to home? That works too -- no need to leave town.  We have ten churches that would be delighted to have you join. Work on improving your health at a world-class health club or the Park District’s beautiful new facility. Catch a movie at our spectacular 30-screen theater and a bite to eat at more than a score of fun restaurants. Our recently enlarged and wonderfully appointed library is the perfect place to improve your mind or just find some quiet time to read a magazine in peace.  Warrenville has numerous friendly, neighborhood type shopping opportunities, and if you prefer a large venue, our Super Target will fill that bill. Like the occasional community celebration? We’re big on the 4th of July and Summer Daze in August brings us great live music and a car show that is always fun. Of course, you might just like to spend some time at home or visiting with your neighbors – safe, quiet, friendly neighborhoods being our specialty. I would be remiss if I did not mention our first class school system, Wheaton-Warrenville CUSD 200, which has provided us with two up-to-date elementary schools, a much anticipated new middle school on the horizon, and a terrific, newly remodeled and expanded Wheaton-Warrenville South high school -- all with opportunities second-to-none for our children.

While all of the attributes I just mentioned add up to a pretty nice package, I think it is a couple of other things that really make us a great little town. First, we have what I am fond of referring to as a refreshing lack of attitude. The only benchmark that means anything in Warrenville is the size of your heart. Which brings me to the other thing that makes Warrenville really special: this community comes together to take care of its own. Whether you are celebrating or grieving, this small town will embrace you when you need it most.

So, again, welcome! I hope you find everything I’ve said to be true. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you when you are still here thirty years down the road.

Sincerely,

David L. Brummel
