US Census 2010

Did you know that the U.S. Constitution mandates that every citizen in the country gets counted every ten years? Did you ever wonder why or if it really matters? Rest assured it does!

Not only does that count determine how many U.S. representatives each state has in Congress, but on the local level, it determines how much federal and state funding Warrenville will receive. Approximately $300 billion in federal funding is distributed to communities each year based not only on the amount of people in the community, but on the demographics, ranging from income, to age, to ethnic background.

The City receives money from various funding sources, all based on information collected in the Census. Why should this matter to you? Because that funding goes towards infrastructure projects and services for you and your family. The federal government uses population data to allocate funds for grants to school districts, head start programs, park districts, public transportation, road rehabilitation, programs for the elderly, emergency food and shelter, and much more. Reduced funding may mean cuts in these things – which would impact your quality of life.

Everyone has very busy lives, and completing long forms are not the first choice to spend free time. The 2010 form, however, has been redesigned and will be just 10 easy questions. To view details of the form, visit the Census Bureau’s website the link below:

From April to July 2010, the Census Bureau will knock on the door of every household that does not mail back a completed 2010 Census form.  It’s critical that you take just 10 minutes to fill out and mail back your form rather than wait for a census worker to show up on your doorstep. About $85 million in taxpayer dollars are saved for every one percent increase in mail response. The Census Bureau must get a census form to – and a completed form back from – every residence in the United States. That’s more than 130 million addresses. This is why the census is the largest domestic mobilization our nation undertakes.

Please take the time to complete this form because it literally makes a difference in the life of the Warrenville community. Remember: It’s in your hands to help our community! Stand up and be counted!
