
Home Security Tips: Members of the Police Department will review home safety and provide an evaluation and tips to improve home security.
Sex Offender List: Every resident should educate themselves on their neighborhood and whether or not a registered sex offender is near by. A list of registered sex offenders who live in Warrenville is available for inspection at the Warrenville Police Department, or from the Illinois State Police’s website at www.isp.state.il.us/sor/sor.cfm.
Speed Trailer: The City of Warrenville’s speed trailer is positioned at various locations throughout the City to educate drivers on how fast they are traveling. The speed trailer is another tool that the Warrenville Police Department uses to reduce accidents and to make sure our streets are safe. Always wear a helmet: 75% of cycle-related fatalities are due to head injuries. Wearing an approved bicycle helmet reduces head injuries by 85%
Bicyclists Must Obey All Traffic Laws...
- Ride single file not side by side.
- Ride with traffic not against.
- Ride as far to the right as is practical or safe.
- Ride to the left of the lane in heavy traffic, when traffic is moving slowly.
- Obey all traffic signals and signs.
Never ride two on a bicycle (unless it is specifically designed to do so).
- Keep to the right, but stay about a car-door-width away from parked cars.
- Never pass on the right.
- Use hand signals when turning and stopping.
- Follow lane markings.
- Don’t turn left from the right lane.
- Be Alert.
Safety Rules…
- Avoid road hazards.
- Watch for potholes, grates, oily pavement, etc.
- Use caution when crossing railroad tracks.
- Use a bike path if one is available.
- Walk the bike in the crosswalk.
- Be visible. Make sure motorists can see. Use reflective tape and use lights at night or when visibility is poor. Children should not ride a bike at night
- Be prepared to yield at all times. Cyclist must yield to pedestrians. Give an audible warning when overtaking pedestrians.
- Watch for cars pulling out. Make eye contact with the driver.
- Be equipped.
Before a Ride Always…
- Check handlebars, bicycle seats, and brakes.
- Check tire pressure.
- Check light and reflectors.
- Keep bike in good repair.
- Engrave drivers license number on the frame for identification or register it with the Warrenville Police Department
