STREET & PARKWAY MAINTENANCE
Brush Pickup & Woodchips

The Public Works Department has enhanced the brush pickup program to a once a month event according to the schedule on the map below. Brush must be out on Monday by 7:00 a.m. for the week scheduled according to areas. For example, Week 1 area must have brush out by 7:00 a.m. the first Monday of the month. Week 2 area must have brush out by 7:00 a.m. of the second Monday of the month, and so on. The program is scheduled to run from  the first full week in April  through the last full week in October each year.

Brush pickup is limited to trimmings from bushes or shrubs, as well as branches from trimming and/or pruning trees. Other items such as logs, root balls, stumps, grass clippings, flowers, weeds, plants, leaves, lumber, or anything in plastic bags or other such containers will NOT be picked up.

All brush must be cut in lengths no longer than 8 feet and no larger than 8 inches in diameter.

All brush must be placed on the parkway with the larger cut end toward the street and the brush pile should not be more than 3 feet high. Brush piles not conforming to these standards will not be picked up and a notice will be left on the front door.

Logs, stumps, grass clippings, flowers, weeds, plants, leaves, lumber or anything in plastic bags or other such containers are not considered brush and cannot be picked up. Proper disposal of that type of material is the sole responsibility of the homeowner and may be done through City's refuse disposal contractor.

Once the brush has been chipped, residents may pick up free woodchips at the Public Works Garage, 3S346 Mignin Drive, and may take as many woodchips as they want. The woodchip bin is accessible 24 hours per day and located at the end of Mignin Drive. For additional information on the brush pick-up program, contact the Department of Public Works at 630/393-9050. Resident cooperation is greatly appreciated in order to ensure that the program is efficient and can continue.

Residents who miss brush pickup or need to dispose of brush during mid-Summer may do so by obtaining a City burn permit and burning the brush according to City of Warrenville Open Burning Ordinance #2567 or disposing of it via the yard waste service provided by the City’s waste hauler.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
EAB has been identified in Warrenville and the Illinois Department of Agriculture has prepared municipalities for infestation. The emerald ash borer is a slender, elongated, bright green beetle. Although chemical and biological controls are being researched, more aggressive containment and eradication efforts are necessary for new outbreaks. The borer kills trees relatively quickly and affects white, green, black, pumpkin, and several horticultural varieties of ash. Within several weeks, larval feeding creates S-shaped galleries in the tree’s inner bark that wind back and forth. The tree quickly declines in the second growing season and is usually dead by the third. For more information on this insect, contact the Morton Arboretum at 630/968-0074 or visit their website at www.mortonarb.org. More information can be found at www.emeraldashborer.info or by calling the national EAB hotline at 866/EAB-4512.
