Ferry Creek Wetland Restoration - Summerlakes Park 

The Ferry Creek Wetland Restoration at Summerlakes Park was the former Kuhn Farm, purchased by a developer. The developer drained and filled the wetland then donated the property to the Park District. The high areas were improved with ball fields, but the former wetland area was not suitable for recreation. When a grant became available restoration began. The approximately six-acre area was dug up and landscaped for the benefit of water conservation and wildlife resources. Today, the grass field is a wildlife haven, as birds, frogs, butterflies, and a variety of other animals are frequently spotted at the site! School children from nearby Johnson Elementary School use the area as an outdoor education site. The children established a prairie area and a creek bank wetland planting area. Visitors can enjoy this serene natural habitat by hiking the paths or relaxing on the Kiwanis overlook platform and discovering a bit of nature right here in Warrenville!
