RUMOR: Subject Attempting to Lure Children in Thornwilde/Edgebrook Subdivision

Fact: Through a Facebook post, on June 9, 2015, a citizen stated that Warrenville Police had warned residents in the Thornwilde/Edgebrook Subdivision of a subject attempting to lure children, and was seen driving a red Chevrolet. On June 9, 2015, a Warrenville Police officer initiated a foot patrol through a portion of the Thornwilde/Edgebrook Subdivision, specifically Greenbriar Park. This action was a proactive strategy on behalf of the officer to be more visible and approachable, and not a reactive call for service. A resident in the park asked the officer if she was there due to a child being abducted. The officer indicated she was walking area parks to meet residents and address any concerns, not due to any report of child luring. It was later made apparent that this particular resident was misconstruing information from a Police Community Alert flyer distributed to the County Ridge Apartment complex residents regarding a possible child luring incident from May 19, 2015. There have been no additional reports of child luring since that original May date and none from the Thornwilde/Edgebrook Subdivision.
