[ARCHIVED] Police Announce Annual Fundraising Events to Benefit Special Olympics Illinois

Warrenville Police Department has begun their annual participation in fundraising events for Special Olympics Illinois (SOI) athletes and would like to extend this opportunity to you to donate, volunteer, or purchase apparel to benefit the athletes. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising movement benefiting children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. SOI provides training and competition in 20 sports, through more than 180 competitions, and to more than 43,000 athletes of all ages.

In 2016, the combined Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run (ILETR) events raised over $4 million, placing Illinois third in the world for its SOI fundraising! And this year (if that amount can be raised), a private benefactor has pledged to match it!

Also in 2016 and with your generous support, Warrenville police officers raised $2,958 through participating in two events. This year, officers have set a much higher fundraising goal of $10,000. In order to meet this goal they will be participating in more ways, like:

Cop on Rooftop with Dunkin’ Donuts
Tip-a-Cop with Red Robin Gourmet Burgers
Illinois Plane Pull
Other scheduled events to be announced throughout the year

And the sale of:

• Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics APPAREL
RAFFLE TICKETS for a Harley Davidson Street Glide and a Can Am UTV

The first scheduled fundraising event is Dunkin’ Donuts Cop on Rooftop on Friday, May 19, from 5:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m., at 2S721 IL Route 59. Make a donation there and receive a coupon for a free donut! SOI apparel will also be for sale and raffle tickets may also be purchased at this event.

In the meantime, ILETR t-shirts and baseball caps are for sale for $15 each, and Harley Davidson Street Glide and Can Am UTV raffle tickets for $10 each. All are available by contacting Sgt. Komar at mkomar@warrenville.il.us, or at 630-393-2131 x3059, or by stopping by the front desk of the Police Department. If you’d like to donate now, go to the City website (www.warrenville.il.us) and then to any Police Department page, click on the Special Olympics Illinois button followed by the “Support Me” icon. By doing this, you can also see how much money has been raised in Warrenville so far! Please share this way to donate with your friends and family in support of these Special Olympians! If you are interested in volunteering at any of these events with the Warrenville police officers, please contact Sgt. Komar.
