Winter Weather Reminders

* Thanksgiving day will be cold, and we may get a little snow. Here are some things to keep in mind:

* Use the Illinois Department of Transportation's website, Getting Around Illinois. You can find information on winter road conditions and view their live traffic cameras at: Winter Travel

* The City prohibits parking on the street for 24 hours after 2 inches (2") or more of snow - or until the street or roadway has been cleared. This allows crews to efficiently and safely remove snow curb-to-curb.

* Be salt smart. Road salt is used to keep roads safe, but too much salt damages vehicles and infrastructure, harms pets and plants, and degrades rivers and wetlands.

* If you have a power outage, contact ComEd:

1. Text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report the outage and receive restoration information

2. Call 1-800 EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661)

3. Report outages on their website at: Report an outage

* Get more tips for the season at: Winter Ready

TIMELY TOPICS...

A graphic that says "did you know?"
A photo of a frozen turkey causing a fire when dropped into a deep fryer as a safety tip for the holidays.

How to Avoid Home Cooking Fires During the Holidays

* Have a safe Thanksgiving, and please practice turkey fryer safety using these tips from Warrenville Fire Protection District:

▪️ Stay away from the house – Set up the turkey fryer more than 10 feet away from your home and other structures.

▪️ Find flat ground – The oil must always be even and steady to be safe.

▪️ Use a thawed and dry turkey – Extra water will cause the oil to bubble and spill over.

▪️ Be prepared – Have a fire extinguisher ready at all times in the event that the oil ignites.
