The new speed limit on River Road is 30 miles per hour.

River Road Speed Limit Reduced to 30 MPH

On Monday, August 18, 2025, City Council voted to lower the speed limit on River Road from 40 MPH to 30 MPH.

Background: River Road was previously a county road. DuPage County transferred it to the City in 2024.

After the transfer:

• The City added curb and gutter improvements.

• We conducted a traffic study to set the right speed for this road.

• Based on the study, Council reduced the speed limit to 30 MPH.

• New signs are posted. School zone limits remain in effect where marked.

Please help our community stay safe and follow the posted speed limits.

The DuPage County Division of Transportation (DuDOT) wants your input to help them develop a new Active Transportation Plan to make it easier and safer to walk and bike throughout the county.
