Shoppers enjoy the small business vendors at The Warrenville Mercantile at Leone Schmidt Heritage Park.

The Story Behind The Warrenville Mercantile

The Warrenville Mercantile officially launched November 1, 2025 at Leone Schmidt Heritage Park (28W164 Warrenville Road) with a ribbon cutting and naming ceremony.

The Mercantile features custom-built shop spaces for rotating local vendors, bringing fresh shopping, food, and family fun to downtown Warrenville.

The location was originally developed by Hiram Leonard. He opened an apothecary on the site in 1842 and it expanded over the years for dry goods, groceries, hardware, and general retail operations.

He became the postmaster of Warrenville in 1861 and this location was Warrenville's postal home until his death in 1878.

His shop building remained at the site and it evolved over time. It became a carriage trimming shop, a pool room, a cigar store, and even a cider establishment.
