Chief Turano began his law enforcement career in 1976 with the Elmhurst Police Department, serving in many capacities including Patrol Sergeant, Tactical Unit Sergeant, Patrol Commander, and Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. Chief Turano retired from the Elmhurst Police Department in January of 2007, upon being selected as Warrenville Chief of Police.
In addition, Chief Turano has served on the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force as an investigator and team leader, ultimately serving in the capacity of Chairman of the Executive Board. Most recently, he served as the President of the DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association (2020-21 term), and as Chairman of the Executive Board of the newly created DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigation Team (DuPage MERIT, August 2019 through July 2021). Chief Turano is a member of both the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
