The City of Warrenville’s water supply comes from an aquifer underground. The City obtains its water from five wells drilled throughout the town. The water contains 24-26 grains of hardness and Warrenville adds fluoride to the water to adhere to the Safe Drinking Water Act. The water contains .9-1.2 parts per million of fluoride. Warrenville’s water is extremely safe to drink as it adheres to all Federal regulations for drinking water. Per EPA regulations, the City annually posts its water quality report, which can be viewed online. In the event of a power failure, water utilities can function with generators fueled by natural gas without interruption of service to our customers. A property’s meter gauges the amount of water utilized in the home. Current charges for water services are as follows. Water Base Charge: $10.54 every two months
Consumption Charge: $1.62 per thousand gallons of water

Utility Division personnel are available on a 24-hour basis for emergencies regarding water problems, such as water main breaks. Personnel will also assist residents in investigating and troubleshooting water concerns, free of charge. High water consumption and water quality issues are the most common concerns. Per City ordinance, residents are not to sprinkle their lawn between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This restriction is in effect daily, all year long.

Water Meter Replacement Program

The Utility Division has initiated a water meter exchange project that involves replacing the water meter located inside the home and installing new hardware to read the meter automatically. The new water meter and hardware are part of an automated reading system that sends two water meter readings per day to the City’s billing. After this system is installed, water meter readers will no longer need to come to the home to a read meter. This automated reading system benefits both the customer and the City by reducing operating costs, accessing more reading data, eliminating misreads, and providing more convenience to the resident. Utility Division employees will knock on doors to replace the meter. If no one is home, a card will be left on the door asking the homeowner to set up an appointment. Replacement of the meter and installation of the hardware takes approximately 30 minutes.

Tips for Preventing Frozen Water Lines

  • Remove garden hose from outside spigot
  • Allow warm air to circulate around water meter
  • Seal tightly any vents or access areas in crawl space
  • Run water at a trickle on extremely cold nights
