Keep the Wreath Red Campaign Begins

Home Spotlights Posted on November 22, 2022

Warrenville Fire Protection District reminds residents of the “Keep the Wreath Red” Campaign. During the holidays, the Fire District will display a wreath decorated with red lights only in front of the station. Every time a fire or incident occurs with the community related to the holidays – flammable decorations, candles, cooking accidents – a red bulb is removed and replaced with a white bulb to remind residents to practice fire safety during the holidays, and all times.

Some holiday safety tips:

Unplug your Christmas tree before you leave the house

Check to make sure your lights are rated for indoor or outdoor use, or both

Substitute flame candles with LED candles. If using flame candles, keep them away from decorations and flammable items

Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop

Have furnaces, wood stoves, fireplaces, and chimneys inspected and cleaned

Never put fireplace ashes in your home or garage. Instead, place them in a metal container located outside and away from your home

Make sure your home has working smoke detectors
