TGIF. It's time for the City's weekly recap to help us stay better connected, informed, and prepared.

Let's begin…

City Halts the Residential Battery Recycling Service

The City will pause its residential battery recycling service at City Hall while staff reviews new collection requirements and explores ways to bring the program back.

You can still recycle household batteries (except alkaline batteries) at the Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 156 Fort Hill Drive in Naperville. The facility accepts drop-offs most Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Cantera Point Townhome Hearing Continues July 10

The developer of the proposed Cantera Point townhome development on MaeCliff Drive has requested a continuation of the public hearing.

The Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals (PC/ZBA) will continue the case to its meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

The developer is seeking additional time to address concerns raised by residents and to potentially revise the project plans.

At the April 24 hearing, many residents attended and shared concerns about the proposal for 102 townhomes. Topics raised included:

* Project density

* Increased traffic and related safety issues

* Impact on public services

* Compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood

The public is welcome to attend the July 10 meeting to share additional comments. That meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 28W701 Stafford Place.

The project is also on the City's website at: https://www.warrenville.il.us/974/Cantera-Point-Townhomes

Keeping Our Community Safe and Clean

In Warrenville, dogs must be on a leash when in public places. This ordinance helps protect everyone—humans and pets alike.

If you see a dog off leash in a public area, please contact the Warrenville Police Department at 630-393-2131.

Leashing your dog ensures their safety from other pets, wild animals, and traffic, while also helping our community feel secure and comfortable.

And don’t forget to pick up after your dog! Cleaning up helps keep our parks, sidewalks, and green spaces clean and enjoyable for everyone.

How to Care for Your New Parkway Tree

If you’ve received a parkway tree in the last couple of years, you may have noticed something around the base—it’s called a tree diaper (some people call it a tree donut).

Here’s what you need to know:

1. What does it do?

The tree diaper absorbs rain or irrigation water and slowly releases it back into the soil when it gets dry. If there’s too much water, the tree diaper helps prevent root rot by soaking up the extra water.

2. How long should it stay on?

Leave the tree diaper in place for 3 years.

3. Should I water my new tree?

Yes! Please hand water your tree at least once a week.

4. What about mulch?

The City will mulch the new parkway trees. When you water, avoid creating a “mulch volcano”—keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk to prevent damage.
