Recycling Guide: What You Can Recycle, and Where

This handy guide shows you what you can recycle, and where you can recycle the item if it is not part of the City's curbside recycling program.

Curbside recycling with Groot: 

Plastic: 

  • All bottles with numbers 1 to 5 & 7

Metal Items:

  • aluminum cans
  • aluminum foil
  • steel or tin cans
  • aluminum baking trays
  • empty aerosol cans

Glass Items:

  • bottles and jars only
  • brown, green, and clear glass

Paper Items:

  • printer paper, school papers
  • newspaper 
  • magazines, catalogs 
  • corrugated cardboard – flattened
  • cereal, pasta, soda or clothing boxes.
  • telephone directories, brown paper (grocery) bags. 
  • juice & milk cartons

Options for items you can't recycle in a curbside recycling program:

Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility156 Fort Hill Drive, Naperville, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (except holidays)

  • automotive fluids
  • batteries
  • fire extinguishers
  • flammables
  • fluorescent bulbs
  • household cleaners
  • mercury
  • paints and stains
  • peanut oil
  • poison, pesticides, and fertilizers

  • solvents and strippers
  • thermostats

Electronics recycling: Drop off items Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  in Naperville and other sites.

  • computers
  • laptops

  • fax machines
  • scanners
  • VCR and DVD players
  • video game consoles
  • satellite receivers
  • electronic keyboards
  • portable music players
  • holiday string lights
  • wire
  • cables
  • adapters
  • power supplies
  • cell phones
  • modems
  • tablets
  • phones
  • docking stations

  • corrugated cardboard
