Residents who plan to conduct certain outdoor fires must now obtain Open Burning Permits through the Warrenville Fire Protection District.

Permit applications must be submitted at least three business days before the planned burn.
What You Can Burn
Only dry, seasoned wood may be burned. It is illegal to burn:
- Leaves
- Grass
- Rubbish or garbage
- Green or freshly cut wood
Small Residential Fires (No Permit Required)
A permit is not required for small recreational fires that are:
- Less than 2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet
- Continuously supervised by someone age 16 or older
Location requirements:
- In an approved container: at least 15 feet from any building or fence
- Not in a container: at least 50 feet from any building or fence
These small fires are allowed any day of the week.
Larger Fires (Permit Required)
Bonfires and large landscape fires greater than 2 feet and up to 5 feet in size require an Open Burning Permit.
Requirements include:
- Permitted Fridays and Saturdays only
- Maximum burn time of five consecutive hours
- Fire must be at least 50 feet from any building or fence
- The approved Open Burning placard must be visible during the burn
When applying, residents must include:
- A completed application
- A site plan showing the burn location
- The water source location relative to the burn site
