A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW WILL CREATE SLICK ROADS jANUARY 22 & 23
Waves of a wintry mix including freezing rain will start Monday, January 22 and last through Tuesday morning, January 23, before additional waves of rain through Thursday. Widespread freezing rain expected overnight January 22. Icing is expected on elevated surfaces and untreated roads/sidewalks. Untreated roads will become hazardous!
Here are some tips for snow and cold weather:

BE SALT SMART:
Road salt is used to keep roads safe, but too much salt damages vehicles and infrastructure, harms pets and plants, and degrades rivers and wetlands.
City staff attend annual trainings and deicing workshops to learn best practices when using salt.

IF YOU HAVE A POWER OUTAGE:
HOW TO PREVENT FREEZING PIPES:
- Keep the heat on to at least 50-55 degrees
- For cabinets that cover pipes on an outside wall, leave cabinet doors open for better exposure to heat
- When temps fall to below freezing, turn on your faucet and let the water run (make sure the water stream is as wide as a pencil)
- If you have a vacant rental property, contact the Water Department to have your water turned off. Also drain the lines and keep the thermostat set to at least 50-55 degrees.
- Experiencing low water pressure? This is a strong indicator that your pipes may be starting to freeze!
WARMING CENTERS:
The Warrenville Park District Recreation Center (3S260 Warren Avenue) is a designated Warming Center with operating hours listed below:
- Monday-Thursday: 5:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday: 5:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Anyone who needs overnight accommodations should call the Police Department non-emergency telephone number, (630) 393-2131 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., or dial 9-1-1 after regular business hours, and ask to speak with an on-duty Sergeant or Corporal.

If you own or operate a vehicle, it's essential to keep an on-the-go emergency kit!
For winter weather, add extra items to keep you safe in cold, snowy, or icy conditions, such as:
- Sand
- Blankets
- Warm clothing
- An ice scraper
- A shovel
