Warrenville Fire Protection District reminds residents of the “Keep the Wreath Red” Campaign. During the holidays, the Fire District will display a wreath decorated with red lights only in front of the station. Every time a fire or incident occurs with the community related to the holidays – flammable decorations, candles, cooking accidents – a red bulb is removed and replaced with a white bulb to remind residents to practice fire safety during the holidays, and all times.
Some holiday safety tips:
• Unplug your Christmas tree before you leave the house
• Check to make sure your lights are rated for indoor or outdoor use, or both
• Substitute flame candles with LED candles. If using flame candles, keep them away from decorations and flammable items
• Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop
• Have furnaces, wood stoves, fireplaces, and chimneys inspected and cleaned
• Never put fireplace ashes in your home or garage. Instead, place them in a metal container located outside and away from your home
• Make sure your home has working smoke detectors
