City Staff have participated in a number of events to brighten the holidays for members of our community:
Officer Zawacki participated in the Shop with a Cop event. This annual county-wide event is coordinated by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), and the DSCO Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 109, and benefits underprivileged children in DuPage County.
Participating officers representing several communities - and approximately 60 children - gathered at the Glen Ellyn Park District for breakfast, games, and a visit with Santa. Then, a police caravan led them to the Bloomingdale Meijer store for some Christmas shopping.
The caravan was an impressive sight! You can watch the video, with Santa in an armored vehicle leading the procession, at: facebook.com/dupagesheriff/videos/3346163018998794
The Police Department also loaded their “sleigh” with Toys for Tots donations from our community and took them to the donation center. So many kids are going to have a wonderful holiday thanks to our community's help.
The City received a total of 18 (40 gallon) bags of donated toys this year. We are so grateful for the outpouring of our community’s generosity!
City staff donated again to Christmas Sharing of Wheaton/Warrenville, which began in 1969 to serve families in Community Unit School District 200 and now helps over 700 families.
Each year, the City has successfully collected over $1,000 in cash donations, clothing, winter gear, toiletries, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene products, and more.
We wish our community a safe, healthy, and happy holidays!
