In January, the City's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission (IDEC) recognizes Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 16.
The Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service (MLK Day) is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.”
Participation in service activities on the third Monday in January has grown each year as more Americans try to provide meaningful change in their communities. Things you can do:
- Donate or volunteer with food banks and pantries
- Deliver meals and groceries to seniors
- Check on your neighbors, friends, and family, especially those who are older or maybe alone. A phone call, text, or a conversation could brighten their day
- Serve in your community - Giving DuPage lists hundreds of ways to give back at: Giving DuPage
