[ARCHIVED] Warrenville's Special Census Survey Dates: April 30 to May 23

Special Census in Warrenville is underway April 30 to May 23

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a special census from April 30 to May 23 for Warrenville. All residents must respond to the 2024 Special Census, even if they participated in the 2020 Census. Why? So the City will have an accurate population count.

How the special census works:

The online survey is open April 30-May 1.

The Census Bureau will send each resident two letters and two postcards asking them to take the special census. The letter/postcard has the website address you need to take the survey, https://portal.census.gov/specialcensus, AND the personal identification number that you need to use. Here are the estimated dates for the mailings:

  • #1 mailing, letter in the mail April 30 (takes 3-4 days to arrive); estimated arrival in homes MAY 3-4
  • #2 mailing, letter in the mail May 6 ; estimated arrival in homes MAY 10-11
  • #3 mailing, postcard in the mail May 10; estimated arrival in homes MAY 13-14
  • #4 mailing, postcard in the mail May 16; estimated arrival in homes MAY 19-20

Field workers go door-to-door May 23-July 12:

Census Bureau Field Workers follow up on residents who don't respond to the online survey by going door-to-door. Field reps will go door-to-door daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., including weekends. They will have identification, and they have been given background checks and vetted by the Warrenville Police Department.

Quality assurance phase June 13-July 12:

Field representatives will verify information in some neighborhoods/households for quality control. Residents might see a field representative standing in front of a home to verify the address. A field representative may knock on a resident's door and ask the resident to verify the information they provided on the census. A field representative might come to the door and ask, "Will you be living at this address as of June 1 2024?" This is all part of the special census process.

Why does the special census matter? Accurate population numbers make the City eligible for more state and federal money. This helps fund City services such as street repair, public safety, and more. Census data also helps the City plan for the future.

The 2020 Census reported Warrenville's population as 13,553. But the 2020 census did not get data from several newer developments. This includes residents of Everton, Lexington Trace, Arden, Westlyn, and Riverview West.

The City estimates an accurate population count could result in $244,528 of revenue each year. This includes three taxes distributed by the state: income tax, local use tax, and motor fuel tax.

What does the Census cover?

Residents fill out a short list of questions about their name, age, sex, race, and housing structure.

Everyone counts! We ask all residents to take part in the Special Census. Responding is important, easy, and quick - your response only takes 10 minutes!

The City’s updated population data from the 2024 Special Census will be listed under a Special Census date of June 1, 2024.
